Ethereal Estate is a sandbox exploration game focused on hauntology. Its starting point is the ruins of Sant Romà de Sau, a Catalan village that was submerged in the 1960s by the dictatorship for the construction of a water reservoir, and resurfaced in 2023 due to severe drought in the area. The player embodies a ghost who can freely roam these ruins and their “opposite”: a modern architectural structure that does not belong to any fixed timeline. Across both spaces, one encounters NPCs who function as unreliable narrators, sharing fragmented versions of the site’s past, present, and future.
